We welcome Zoo Trippin’ back to The Bootlegger to ring in the New Year! This time, they’re strippin’ it down for a special acoustic set. FREE!
Zoo Trippin’ was founded in 2014 where guitarist Lynn Roose III and vocalist Tony Casa started a new project with drummer Steven Hatmaker, after leaving their respective projects. Three releases later, the band picked up guitarist Zachary Pontzer and Alex Kessis. The group holds true to its blues/rock roots but is now off in a new direction, adding a more funk/alternative element to their latest tunes.
In 2018 the band is celebrating the release of The Sonny Black EP, as well as a second b-sides collection entitled T-Sides. This year, they will be releasing new singles, videos and a full length documentary – with more being planned. They have played with such acts as Jack White, Incubus, Third Eye Blind and Griz among others. http://www.zootrippin.com/
Unlike other bands that feel the need to have a gimmick to garner attention, Zoo Trippin’s “live” energy is the gimmick. They have earned a reputation for being spontaneous during their live shows. Sometimes, that means not cluing-in the other members of the band about what one of them might do.”- Rick Gethin – Music in Motion
“There are bands from Columbus and then there are Columbus bands. Zoo Trippin’, an ever-evolving funk, rock and blues group, belongs to the latter.” Zak Kolesar – The Lantern
“At times, Casa, decked out in sunglasses, a bandana and a flannel shirt (which he discarded several songs in), came on like a would-be aerobics instructor, barking out commands to the gathered throng: “Let’s pick it up!” “Let’s all get down!” “Jump up on three!”’ Andy Downing – Columbus Alive
